World Cup Fever...

well well well...a new day had begun...hehe...kinda sleepy in office now...slept late watching the game between Italy and Australia...the world cup final 16...hehe...i cant seem to keep my eyes open now...sad sad...should have slept early...

i am an Italy and Brazil fan all the way...hehe...so i guess that would be why i stayed up to catch that match...i was kind of rooting for italy to take the world cup this year...but judging from their performance last night, i see very little hope...i wont say there is no hope at all...cause in the world cup...nothing is certain, right...hehe

i was expecting the azzurri to take lead from the start and trash australia....since, on paper, italy is the stronger team without doubt...australia hardly ever made it this far where else italy took the cup for three times already...sadly my expectations wasnt met up to...suddenly, out of the blues, australia looked more like the stronger team on attack...the azzurri's was left to defend their way through...

they did attack once in a while...good attacks but sadly there was no proper finish...i couldnt put my finger on which factor was the main reason for this...italy's strikers wasnt at their best or was it that australia was defending too well....whatever the reason, it wasnt producing any goals from the azzurri...they even got Marco Materazzi sent of and was left playing with 10 men against the 11 men australia...

australia played very well indeed for a new comer being able to hold the italian giants with a 0-0 score right up to the final minutes of the game...they attacked well and played with proper startegy...they also had their fair share of shots on goal...however no goals were conceeded due to the azzurri excellent defence...i guess they would deserve a compliment on that because they did do a wonderful job...especially the goalie, Buffon...he was like the saviour of the azzurri jumping and stretching at every shot to keep the australians out of his net...definitely the kind of last man any one would need in their team...he reconfirmed the reason why he is one of the worlds best...

well...then came the sad part of the match...as much as i wanted italy to win the match...i wanted them to do it in style...thank god they won the match...but withot much style in there...hehe...it was a penalty shot at the very last minute of the extra time of the match...somehow, the refree gave the azzurri a penalty kick against an australian player...i an not sure myself if it should have been a penalty kick...but as they say, refrees decision is the final decision...so italy had their penalty kick taken by the golden boy of roma, Francesco Totti, who came in the later part of second half of the match...and without doubt it went in...and italy took the win...

it was very sad to look at the australians after that...they did try their best to make it to the next round...i guess this is what they call ass luck...they al looked so disappointed and down...i wont blame them for the display...for if i were to lose a match at the very last minute from a penalty kick...i know how i would react...hehe...but then again, they should be proud of themselves for making it this far...it is not easy for a new team to do as good as they did...

as for the azzurri...they are through to the next round...and they will be facing ukraine for their next match...i wont dare say that is should be an easy opponent for the azzurri after seeing what happened last nite...they azzurri should consider themselves lucky for coming out of last nights match as the winners...probably its a reward for the unfair treatment they received in the last world cup against korea...whatever the reason...the italians really need to pull up their socks and show the world what they are actually made of...i really hope they will do better in the next match against ukraine...hehe

tonight Brazil will be plaing their match against Ghana...hope they wont fumble somehow...hehe...phew...i guess the world cup fever has risen in tempreture...hehe...everybody together now...ole ole ole....hehe....
